Outer Journey
New Orleans has always been place I wanted to visit so right away I knew I wanted to pack a lot of things because I’m not too sure what to expect. To prepare for this trip I asked my parents what I should bring, because they have been there several times. Since Louisiana is going to be warmer they said to pack an option of clothes such as capris, one pair of flip flops, plenty of socks, t shirts to stay comfortable, and my most comfortable shoes. As for my personal items I am going to bring my camera to take plenty of pictures, portable phone charger, laptop, fitbit and fitbit charger, and money. Before the trip I had to purchase new shoe inserts for my shoes because I have issues with my left foot. I also had to pick up extra shifts at work to make sure I had plenty of spending money because I know I’m not the only one ready to eat! As for the ride on the train I looked up a train check list on pinterest. I’m bringing my necessities such as: tooth brush, toothpaste, hair brush, dry shampoo, fresh set of clothes, phone charger, laptop, laptop charger, pillow, blanket, and money. I’ve never been on a train longer than three hours so I know this is going to be a bit of a struggle for me. I have a very hard time sitting down for long periods of time, but as long as I have my phone or laptop with Netflix, I will be all squared away. Before preparing for this trip/class, I had to find someone to take care of my dog while I am gone. I’ve never been away from her for more than 2 days so I was kind of nervous about it. It’s hard finding someone to watch a 3-month-old puppy, considering their frequent needs, for an entire week. I got is all figured out and have her on her same routine. While preparing myself for the class I decided to do several searches about what I would like to see while I’m there. I know they jazzy, blues music really intrigues me and so does all of the architecture and spooky nature. One main event I would like to attend to is the haunted ghost tours. There are a lot of people who don’t believe in that sort of thing but I am really interested in all of the history of the city. I have heard so many stories from my mom, dad, aunt, and uncle about the scary tours and how they have experienced supernatural events and/or heard of the event happening. I have been researching the best places to go to that deal with the hauntings and one of the ones that caught my eye would have to be the Infamous City of the Dead Cemetery tour. It is known to be the oldest active and the most haunted cemetery.

Inner Journey

My expectations for this trip/course is to experience the New Orleans life and to see the different way of living there. Even though it’s just states away from Illinois I know it’s a lot different from my home town specifically. I want to experience the variety of foods because every year my parents, aunt and uncle make a trip down there just to bring home fresh shrimp. I would have to say it’s the best shrimp I’ve ever tasted in my life. Just because of that I am excited to see what’s next and my standards are held pretty high! I’m looking forward to seeing all the different types of art there as well. Whether it’s street art, paintings, or architecture, I’m ready to see it. I’m eager to learn about the history of the city and to find out what took place there. The French Quarter is a main attraction I want to see primarily because the show called “The Originals,” is filmed there. New Orleans is the set of that show and I’m ready to see what I saw in the series. I think this course will be full of site seeing, great food, and sore feet and I mean that in the best way possible! At least I will be reaching my goal of 10,000 steps a day while I’m there! Even though I’m not the best at writing, I look forward to our blog posts because I will get to share with others what I saw and what I experienced. It will also be useful for my family because they can keep up with me day by day by checking my blog and seeing where I’ve been and what I’m doing. I hope to understand the history so I can explain to others what I saw. I want to have others experience my trip with me, even though they won’t be there. I am taking this course primarily because I’ve never been to the City. Growing up I’ve always wanted to take a trip here and see what goes on every day and see how different it is from my small town of Havana. I want to experience the bluesy jazz music because I heard it is the heart and soul of New Orleans. There are tons of musicians that play on the corners of the streets and I heard they are very good, so I’m excited to be able to hear it and experience what others have seen. I’m looking forward to spending time with my classmates and being able to share this incredible  time with them. It’s not every day you get the opportunity to take a trip to New Orleans to explore and experience the wonderful city. This was just one opportunity I could not pass up!
